On January 21, the “Happy Chinese New Year – Charm of Jiangsu” Cultural and Tourism Conference captivated audiences in London. The event brought together distinguished guests and representatives from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese Embassy in the UK, China National Tourist Office London, and the World Travel Market, underscoring its global significance.

The conference, themed “Happy Chinese New Year – Charm of Jiangsu,” celebrated the cultural and natural allure of Jiangsu, a region fondly known as the “land of fish and rice.” The event highlighted Jiangsu’s unique identity through immersive cultural experiences.

A standout performance included a British singer’s rendition of the beloved Jiangsu folk song “Jasmine Flower,” alongside a traditional Chinese music ensemble’s presentation of “Moonlit Night on the Spring River.” These enchanting performances transported the audience to Jiangsu’s rich cultural heritage, showcasing its elegance and tranquility through the universal medium of art.

Adding to the cultural immersion, the event featured a Jiangsu Culture and Tourism Photography Exhibition. With dozens of breathtaking photographs, the exhibition beautifully captured Jiangsu’s harmonious fusion of modern innovation and timeless traditions, painting a vivid portrait of the province’s material prosperity and spiritual richness.

Chen Jingsong, Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, highlighted that the “Charm of Jiangsu” encapsulates the province’s unique cultural and tourism identity. He remarked, “Water serves as the most vibrant symbol of Jiangsu’s geography, while ‘charm’ captures the profound richness and vitality of its culture.” Chen also spotlighted Suzhou’s renowned craftsmanship, Huai’an’s prestigious designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, and the province’s 12 UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage elements as enduring symbols of Jiangsu’s rich cultural legacy.

Reflecting on the event, a British attendee remarked, “This conference has unveiled the unique charm of Jiangsu. Its abundant waterways and refined cultural traditions make it a destination I am eager to explore.”

A significant milestone of the event was the official launch of Jiangsu’s Global Communication Centre in London. This initiative represents a pivotal step in deepening cultural and tourism exchanges between Jiangsu and the UK, fostering stronger international collaboration and mutual appreciation.
